The Academic Curriculum
We know that everyone learns in different ways. At Yorston Lodge we ensure our curriculum is both broad and exciting. The variety on offer ensures that pupils from Nursery through to Year 6 look forward to lessons and are fully engaged in all aspects of their learning.
Our dedicated staff and specialist teachers support children right through the school, preparing them for the 11+ Common Entrance exam and helping ensure they develop as confident individuals who go on to achieve their full academic potential.
Lessons and subjects are enhanced with regular trips and visitors to the school, with the school calendar is always full of activities and events. Children have the opportunity to attend residential trips, ranging from adventure training to our annual ski trip in the Alps.
Pupils benefit from a highly effective curriculum which stimulates their interests. OFSTED
Yorston pupils learn an ethos of hard work and have a determination to succeed in every aspect of school life, as noted in our Ofsted inspection. Success is celebrated in assemblies at every level, from the celebration of LAMDA distinctions, sporting cup wins and the more modest achievements.
We firmly believe that recognition and encouragement are great motivators for children.
Pupils leave Yorston as excellent “all-rounders” with the confidence to try anything. Without limits to learning many of our Year 6 children are already working at Year 7 or 8 level in those areas that particularly interest them, or for which they show increased aptitude. The outcome of this is the excellent successes they have in their senior school entrance exams, gaining places to some of the country’s most sought-after academic secondary schools.
“Evidence of outstanding progress can be found in pupils’ workbooks in subjects including mathematics, geography, history and science.”OFSTED
